Reno先生の富士登頂！
On September 13th and 14th, my wife and I hiked up Mt. Fuji.
We had some poor weather but we were able to see a nice sun set
and we saw a little bit of the beautiful sunrise through the clouds
from the peak. The 15 hour round trip journey minus a short 3 hour
nap was a wonderful opportunity to spend some quality time with
my wife. I can’t wait until my children are old enough to hike up
with us.
This being my second time up, I have to say that it seems to get easier
the more you do it. I was shocked to hear about Doug Szwarc. He’s a
marine who climbed up Mt. Fuji 4 times in 21 hours and 59 minutes
on September 2nd as a fundraiser for children at welfare homes in Japan.
He raised about 10,000 US＄ from other Marine personnel. I don’t think
I would ever attempt more than one hike up in a day but I look forward
to going up again some other day.
Hopefully I’ll have some better weather then.

9月の13日、14日に、私は妻と富士山へ登りました。天候には
恵まれませんでしたが、すばらしい夕日と、頂上から雲間にわずかで
はありましたが、美しい朝日をのぞむことができました。3時間の仮眠
を含む15時間に及ぶ富士周遊の旅は、妻と過ごす最上のひと時であり
ました。私の子どもたちが、私たちと一緒に登れるくらいに成長するの
も待ちきれません。富士登山は自身にとって2度目でしたが、回を重
ねるごとに簡単になるような気がします。
私は、ダグ・スワーク大尉の話を聞いて驚きました。ダグ氏は米海軍の
大尉で、日本の児童福祉施設へのチャリティー活動として、9月2日に
21時間59分の間に、4回もの富士登頂を果たしました。そして、10,000
ドル(日本円にして約105万円以上)を海軍兵たちと共に募りました。
私は1日に1回以上の登頂を試みることはしないと思いますが、近い
うちに再度行ってみたいと思います。
そのときは天候がもっと良いといいのですが･･･。
